Meet Susan
WNC History Tours was started by Susan Barscheski, a current resident of Western NC. Raised in the Appalachian foothills of Georgia, her family first moved to the area in 1998. A student of local history most of her life, she was blessed to have opportunities to live in history-rich locations and engage with locals all over the world, including California, Hawaii, Washington DC, and Germany. She moved back to Western North Carolina in 2015, and took in history as a casual hobby. When she realized that her favorite tourist adventures abroad were not being offered in the area, it inspired her to study harder and offer her own local tours. Notable historic characters in her heritage include Cornelia Fort, Minnie Pearl, and Abraham Lincoln.*

Walking tours are a great way to get to know an area and a fun way to learn! WNC History Tours started in 2022, with the intention of increasing the understanding of our culture’s past in an exciting and engaging way. Our first tour began in Sylva, NC, and we aspire to offer tours in all the historic districts in Western North Carolina.
